Algemeen
Enige tijd geleden alweer kwamen de eerste Roland AIRA-modellen uit: de J-6, E-4 en T-8. Later kregen we intern een aankondiging van Roland dat er nieuwe AIRA aan zat te komen. Dus wij denken: "wat zou nou het Roland-assortiment aan kunnen vullen met een kleine variant?" We besloten dat 't een kleine SP-404 moest worden, bij ons een van de grootste hardlopers van deze fabrikant. Het werd echter de S-1, een generieke synthesizer. Onlangs opnieuw de aankondiging van een nieuw AIRA-model. En ditmaal bleek de eerdere gok dus wél juist: de Roland P-6 is een soort heel kleine SP-404, of in ieder geval een kleine sampler die apelleert aan dezelfde doelgroep. Of zouden ze onze eerste gok destijds hebben doorgespeeld naar het hoofdkantoor van Roland? We zullen het wel nooit weten...
Eigenschappen van de Roland AIRA Compact P-6
De P-6 is een zeer portable apparaatje, qua formaat vergelijkbaar met je smartphone, waarmee je kunt samplen. De onderliggende sampling-engine heeft bovendien granulaire mogelijkheden. Met granulaire synthese wordt bedoeld het opbreken van een klank in piepkleine deeltjes om deze in een heel andere context weer opnieuw te triggeren. Het bekendste voorbeeld (dat iedereen gebruikt) is de opname van de enkele waterdruppel waarmee een granulaire regenbui wordt gemaakt. Dus zelfs als je alleen maar 'Boe!!' samplet, dan nog kun je daar uren creatief mee bezig zijn. In die context moet je de P-6 ook zien; in dit appraat tref je geen enorme lappen sample-geheugen. Het kleine sample-geheugen is ook echt niet bedoeld om een grote Steinway-pianoklank in op te slaan, maar juist kleine opnames waar je qua synthese zeer creatief mee gaat zijn.
Bediening
Even uitzoeken waar alle knopjes zitten, en in no-time ben je zelf de grenzen van de mogelijkheden aan het uitproberen. Effecten zijn er natuurlijk ook om 't geheel wat extra 'saus' te geven. Een X0X-sequencer ontbreekt niet, je kunt er op locatie echt heerlijk mee stoeien. En dat is ook een flink stuk van de doelgroep; mensen die onderweg zijn, mensen die in de trein wat tijd willen doden. En zeker ook mensen die door de stad lopen, door de natuur lopen, en de omgevingsgeluiden willen vermorzelen met synthese. Een heel interessant apparaatje; iemand al een idee wat de volgende AIRA gaat zijn?

Snel en goed geleverd. De p6 is precies wat ik verwachtte, maar hou wel in de gaten dat er een leerproces aan zit. Niet erg, maar niet vanzelf. Eenmaal wat geleerd is het echt een ongelooflijk goede sampler voor zijn geld. Je kunt er veel mee. Ik ben erg blij met de aankoop

Veel te veel dubbelfuncties of zelfs driedubbel.
Te weinig knoppen die direct doen wat je wilt. Altijd een combi.
En de batterij gaat maar 3 uur mee. Opladen 2 uur.

Heb 'm net een paar dagen in huis maar nu al fan. Menu is af en toe wat onhandig met z'n afkortingen maar verder heel intuitief om direct mee te spelen. Top apparaat.

De Roland P6 is een compacte sampler die je gemakkelijk in je tas kunt meenemen, ideaal voor het maken van muziek onderweg of in de buitenlucht op een zonnige dag. De ingebouwde batterij gaat ongeveer 3 uur mee en is eenvoudig op te laden via USB-C.
De stepsequencer is zeer gebruiksvriendelijk, waarbij je per bank 6 samples kunt plaatsen, en er zijn in totaal 8 banken beschikbaar. Een handige feature is dat je meerdere samples op één pad kunt opnemen om ruimte te besparen voor andere samples.
De belangrijkste reden voor mij om de P6 aan te schaffen, was echter de granular synthesizer. Je kunt elke sample omzetten naar een granular synth, en deze bespelen via de toetsen van de stepsequencer of door een MIDI-keyboard aan te sluiten.
Ik heb de P6 om 22:57 besteld en binnen 5 minuten was hij al aangemeld voor verzending. Binnen 24 uur had ik hem in huis! Geweldige service en een fantastisch apparaat voor elke muzikant!
